Thousands of Ontarians, all of them invited guests, gathered inside Toronto's National Trade Centre on Wednesday evening for a chance to meet the Queen. Bare-headed in a pink coat, Queen Elizabeth arrived with her husband Prince Philip at Exhibition Place in the early evening for a reception where they will be shown the advances Ontario has made in the past 50 years.
Some of Ontario's political elite were on the tarmac to greet the Queen and Prince Philip as they arrived from Winnipeg on a sunny and mild afternoon. Dressed in teal, Elizabeth smiled as she greeted about 10 officials, including Lieut. Gov. James Bartleman and Ontario Premier Ernie Eves, who lined the route from her plane to the car. The royal couple were whisked downtown to the Royal York Hotel, where their accommodations for the next two nights take up an entire floor of the historic building. After a short rest, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh went to Exhibition Place, where displays show the advances made in Ontario during Elizabeth's 50-year reign. Included is a maze called Main Street Ontario that features dozens of exhibits representing business, the arts, culture and social groups. |
